Blackjack - How to Play
A typical Blackjack table seats 6 players, who all sit opposite the dealer in an arc formation. The game is
based on using six or eight decks of cards which are shuffled together by the dealer, and placed in a card-
dispensing box called a 'Shoe'. Every Blackjack player receives two cards, and is playing against the
dealer.

Each player in turn chooses to either stick with the 2 cards or take more cards to try and get closer to 21. If
you take more cards and total more than 21 you bust and have lost the hand. Those players who finish
without busting must wait for dealer’s turn. When all the players are done, the dealer will play his cards. As
a general rule, on counts of 17 or higher the dealer must stay; on counts of 16 or lower the dealer must
draw, which gives the players and advantage.

In Blackjack, cards two through ten are worth their face value, while face cards (jack, queen and king) are
worth ten. An Ace is worth either 1 or 11, whichever suits the player best. If you draw 21 on your first 2
cards, with a face card and an ace, this is a winning hand and is called 'Blackjack'. A situation in which
both the player and the dealer have an equal hand value, is called a 'push.' In such a case, neither the
player nor the dealer win the hand. If you have 'Blackjack', you will win one and one-half times your bet
unless the dealer also has Blackjack, in which case it is a Push or a Tie (or a Stand-off) and you will get
your bet back.

Types of
advanced bets in Blackjack:

  • Double Down: doubling your initial bet following the initial two-card deal, but you can hit one card
    only.
  • Even Money: cashing in your bet immediately at a 1:1 payout ratio when you are dealt a natural
Blackjack and the dealer's showing card is an Ace.
  • Split Hand: to split the initial two-card hand into two and play them separately - allowed only when
the two first cards are of equal value. Use each card as the start to a separate hand and place a
second bet equal to the first when you play blackjack.
  • Insurance: side bet up to half the initial bet against the dealer having a natural 21 - allowed only
when the dealer's showing card is an Ace.
